In support of Jet Aviation’s program to expand its business, its Midcoast Aviation subsidiary has launched construction of a new $10.5 million, 115,000 sq-ft-hangar at its St. Louis Downtown Airport facility. The new 770- by 135-foot structure will bring Midcoast’s hangar space on the airport to more than 500,000 sq ft in eight buildings on more than 27 acres.

Avjet, an aircraft charter, management, sales and leasing company, announced an expansion of its operation at Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport in Southern California. The company said it needs the new 54,000-sq-ft 2.8-acre facility–which it expects to move into in December next year–to accommodate growth. The extra hangar space will include enough room for two Boeing Business Jets and a Gulfstream V.

Rectrix Aerodrome Centers has begun construction of a new FBO/hangar facility at Florida’s Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. The Rectrix center, due to make its grand opening next fall (the phased opening will begin this winter), will be the company’s second FBO and the site of new “Hangarminiums,” private hangars with services provided by Rectrix personnel.

Jet Aviation has begun a $27 million expansion at its current complex in Basel, Switzerland. The project will add almost 334,000 sq ft of hangar, shop and ramp space, and is expected to take about 18 months.

Duncan Aviation recently christened this 19,200-sq-ft paint hangar. According to a spokesman, the new hangar “significantly increases” the capacity of the Battle Creek, Mich. facility, which expects to turn out some 100 aircraft exterior paint projects next year. The facility adds 40 more paint slots annually and can accommodate aircraft as large as the Global Express–and more than one at a time using a two-zone air-flow system.

Central Flying Services at Adams Field (LIT), Little Rock, Ark., claims it is the largest full-service FBO on the planet, with more than 550,000 sq ft under roof. Not satisfied with that claim, the FBO is beginning construction on a new 45,000-sq-ft storage hangar that will increase its overall size to about 600,000 sq ft. Construction is set to begin in the summer.

Truman Arnold Companies announced the addition of Knoxville to its TAC Air FBO network. The Texarkana, Texas-based chain now has 11 FBOs across the U.S. Located on the McGhee Tyson Airfield for more than three decades, the new facility has three large hangars, three rows of T hangars, and plane ports.

Rifton Aviation, the upstate New York FBO formerly owned and operated by the Bruderhof religious community, has been sold. Located at Stewart International Airport (SWF) in Newburgh, N.Y., the ExxonMobil Avitat facility now operates under the name Supermarine, a sister operation to the FBO of the same name in Santa Monica, Calif.

The recently merged business-aviation entity now known as Garrett/Piedmont Hawthorne/Associated officially opened its new 18,000-sq-ft, $1.2 million hangar at Virginia’s Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport (CHO) last month. The new hangar was completed on time and under budget, according to the company, adding capability to the services Piedmont Hawthorne provides at CHO.
