Million Air Columbus at Port Columbus International Airport (CMH), Ohio, has acquired an additional 32,000 sq ft of heated hangar space. The expansion brings the FBO’s total hangar area to more than 121,000 sq ft equipped with doors measuring 120 feet wide by 30 feet high. Some revisions to the ramp layout have improved safety and ground-traffic flow.
Guardian Jet Center, a one-year-old FBO at Ontario International Airport, Calif., has apparently outgrown its 24,000-sq-ft hangar and current terminal. The company recently broke ground for an additional 22,000-sq-ft hangar expected to be completed early this month. A larger terminal is expected to be built by early next year.
According to a Little Rock local newspaper account, hangar space is hard to come by in the state of Arkansas, especially the capital city. Adams Field (LIT) is reported to be tapped out on hangar accommodations, and some local businessmen said they are concerned the situation could curtail economic growth in the city.
Bloomington-Normal Central Illinois Regional Airport is home to Platinum Jet Center BMI’s new FBO, which opened in October. The FBO’s 20,000-sq-ft heated hangar “is the largest hangar in the Midwest,” said vice president and general manager David Schlentner, and is tall enough to accept a BBJ. The FBO is owned by Executive Flight Management and features a pilot lounge, business center, customer offices, a training room and Chevron fuel.
Traffic is picking up and hangar space is returning to New Orleans Lakefront Airport, more than six months after Hurricane Katrina caused millions of dollars’ worth of damage. Refurbishment of Million Air’s 1930s-era art deco Moffett hangar should conclude by the middle of this month. Million Air will also offer space in the 22,000-sq-ft former Atlantic Aviation hangar, due to open next week.
Nathan Landow doesn’t like the acronym FBO. The new Dulles Jet Center (DJC) that he and his sons built on the east side of Dulles International Airport in Virginia looks like an FBO, but he calls it a “flight service center.” It offers traditional FBO services in a facility convenient to Runway 19.
While crewmen work on a United Arab Emirates air force F-16E/F after a demo flight, in the background construction workers are busy erecting a series of new hangars for Emirates’ new Airbus A380s. In addition to the hangars, Dubai International Airport is adding a new terminal and concourses to handle 70 million passengers.
In support of Jet Aviation’s program to expand its business, its Midcoast Aviation subsidiary has launched construction of a new $10.5 million, 115,000 sq-ft-hangar at its St. Louis Downtown Airport facility. The new 770- by 135-foot structure will bring Midcoast’s hangar space on the airport to more than 500,000 sq ft in eight buildings on more than 27 acres.
