Oriens Advisors, a UK-based consultancy group looking to support entry-level jet operations and helping airports to fulfill their real-estate potential, has set up a new headquarters at London Biggin Hill Airport. The company's EA Aviation subsidiary is managing 27,000 sq ft of hangar space there, along with 14 offices and an annex next to the hangars where Oriens itself is now based.

Oxford Airport, some 40 miles northwest of London, has broken ground on a 47,700-sq-ft, three-bay hangar, making it the largest facility built at the airport to date. It will increase the total hangar space available at the airport to 240,500 sq ft. Offering independent landside access, office space and car parking, the new facility is scheduled for completion by December.

Lyon Bron Airport in France held a grand opening for a new 32,000-sq-ft hangar on April 2. The $4.7 million facility includes 2,800 sq ft of office space. Green features of the hangar include 15,000 sq ft of solar cells on the roof, capable of producing 90 megawatt-hours of electricity per year. Another part of the roof is covered with vegetation that will retain rainwater.

Business Jet Center at Oakland International Airport in Northern California has expanded its hangar space to more than 100,000 sq ft with the addition of a 15,000-sq-ft hangar. An ExxonMobil Avitat facility, Business Jet Center has seen demand for hangar space at Oakland grow steadily over the past 18 months, according to manager David Mills.

Lyon Bron Airport (Booth No. 545) inaugurated a 32,000-sq-ft hangar on April 2. The $4.7 million facility, designated H8, can hold nine business aircraft. It also offers 2,800 sq ft of office space. The French airport received an ISO 9001 rating in March. Its business aviation enclave plans to build four more hangars pending a demonstration of sufficient demand.

Privately owned and operated Houston Executive Airport has added a second corporate hangar to its FBO facility. The 23,400-sq-ft hangar opened last year, and the airport now boasts more than 71,000 sq ft of hangar space, including T-hangars and the original 26,000-sq-ft FBO hangar. A Chevron Global fuel dealer, Houston Executive offers 24/7 fueling, rental and crew cars, crew lounge, catering and free wireless Internet access.

While heavy snowfall early last month limited aircraft operations at airports up and down the U.S. eastern seaboard, the Washington, D.C.-area airports were the hardest hit. Reagan National Airport recorded 17.8 inches of snow on February 5 and 6, while outlying areas saw more than two feet. Manassas (Va.) Regional Airport reported more than 30 inches and Dulles International, about 26 miles from downtown D.C.
