On May 15, the new Hangar 10 FBO at Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport in Kansas City fueled its first customer airplane, a Citation Sovereign operated by Cessna. Hangar 10 is building a new 91,000-sq-ft FBO complex with a 28,000-sq-ft terminal. During construction, Hangar 10 is operating from temporary facilities.

They also learned that even more stringent local fire codes can make hangar construction costs prohibitively expensive.

This is the airport’s first new hangar since the authority took over the airport from the U.S. Navy in 1999. The former Sandpoint Aviation FBO at Sandpoint Municipal Airport next to Northern Idaho’s Lake Pend Oreille is now SilverWing Aviation. The FBO is part of a new development on the airport called SilverWing at Sandpoint, a fly-in community built on 18 acres with direct airport access.
At its headquarters at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe, Pa., L.J. Havasu Air Center near Arizona’s Lake Havasu has joined the Avfuel dealer network. The FBO is owned by brothers Dante and Darren Marinelli and features a 5,500-sq-ft terminal building, 100,000-sq-ft hangar and a new weather awning. The terminal building offers pilot snooze rooms and a private lounge plus a movie theater, complimentary coffee, ice and refreshments and concierge service.
This year, Banyan Air Services is celebrating 30 years of service at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport in South Florida. Founded by Don Campion in 1979, Banyan started in a 4,000-sq-ft hangar as a small piston-aircraft maintenance shop for local charter operators.
