Engine monitoring services company Jet-Care announced at EBACE it has received in excess of 50,000 engine trend data sets via its iECHO GPA iPad app since introducing it at the 2011 NBAA Convention. iECHO enables pilots to gather data during steady state cruise and, once a connection is made, send the data directly to Jet-Care for processing and evaluation. Receiving the data on a flight-by-flight basis enables Jet-Care to notify the operator of any trend changes more quickly.
Kellstrom Commercial Aerospace has acquired AirLiance Materials from Lufthansa Technik. Under the terms of the deal, AirLiance’s current CEO, Roscoe Musselwhite, will become president and CEO of Kellstrom Commercial Aerospace and a member of Kellstrom’s board of directors. His initial responsibility will be to integrate the two commercial operations into a single, integrated organization.
MedAire (Booth 739), an International SOS company, announced the launch of HealthMap 2013 during EBACE here this week. HealthMap, a four-year-old project, is a tool that can help companies with traveling employees understand the medical risks in the markets where they operate. Understanding risk is key to managing health threats to employees, passengers and crew, according to MedAire.
Student pilot Michael Graham pleaded guilty in a North Carolina U.S. District Court on May 6 to falsifying statements in connection with his submission of an FAA medical form to obtain his student pilot certificate. According to an FAA statement, Graham did not disclose his criminal or medical history or current medications on his application for an airman medical certificate, which an aviation medical examiner subsequently approved. The FAA was notified after his flight instructor became concerned about Graham’s behavior.
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) is pushing for clearer information on the state of FAA facilities. To set the stage for a new study of FAA facilities, the GAO said, “Our preliminary analyses indicate that as of February [this year] FAA-staffed facilities are generally in fair to good condition based on their facility condition indices.
XOJet appointed Shari Jones as its new senior vice president and chief marketing officer. Based at the company’s Bay Area headquarters, she will be responsible for the development of integrated brand strategies and their execution across the company’s product offerings and consumer communication channels. Jones will report directly to XOJet president and CEO Bradley Stewart. She comes from Levi Strauss, where she led consumer marketing for Levi’s and Dockers clothing in the Americas.
An RAA-sponsored study into the fatigue effects of multi-segment flight operations has reached the end of its third and final stage, involving the development of so-called fatigue risk management systems (FRMS).
Though its parent company Finmeccanica yesterday reported €786 million in losses last year, subsidiary AgustaWestland posted strong 2012 results that included revenues of €4.2 billion, new orders of €4 billion and an accumulated backlog of €11.87 billion, as well as earnings before interest, taxes and depreciation of €473 million. The helicopter manufacturer’s results reflected marginally improved results over its 2011 performance and also reflected a slight increase in research and development spending, to €506 million.

Despite reports that the H7N9 avian flu has been responsible for 10 deaths out of 28 reported cases in China, international medical authorities don’t yet believe the virus is a concern for flight crews or airline passengers traveling to Asia, or at least not enough for the World Health Organization (WHO) to recommend any travel or trade restrictions. All cases have occurred in regions of eastern China–Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, with 13 in Shanghai. None appears to have been transmitted from person-to-person, only to people who have been in contact with infected poultry.
