Air Comm Corp. (ACC), a specialist in the design, production and support of environmental control systems for rotorcraft, is presenting “The Ultimate Guide To Helicopter Environmental Control Systems” today at 10 a.m. in Room C-148. The program is of interest to rotorcraft owners, operators and maintenance personnel.

Air Comm, which specializes in interior heating and air-conditioning systems for helicopters, is hosting “a comprehensive presentation on helicopter environmental control systems” here at Heli-Expo 2011.

Air Comm has unveiled the first digital climate-control system for helicopters at Heli-Expo. The system will allow crew and passengers to dial in desired temperatures throughout the aircraft. Simply called the Digital Climate Control System, it automatically engages air-conditioning and heating as required to maintain the selected temperatures. It features separate zones and controls for cockpit and cabin.
Air Comm (Booth No. 3748) is supplying vapor-cycle air-conditioning systems to Eurocopter for the U.S. Army’s Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) program, which is led by EADS North America. Designated UH-72 by the Army, the LUH is a variant of the Eurocopter EC 145. According to Keith Steiner, Air Comm’s evaporator configuration is important to the Army.

Air-conditioner manufacturer Skil-aire of Baltimore has developed the Moving Cooler line of caster-mounted units designed to spot-cool areas such as remote boarding lounges and cabins of aircraft waiting on ramps or during interior maintenance. Skil-aire notes these are the first commercially available air conditioners to isolate the condenser and evaporative air streams for added cooling efficiency and less energy use.
Driessen Aerospace has introduced a new “hot cup” designed originally for the Boeing 787 galley. The cup brings about three pints of water to a boil in five to seven minutes, using induction technology. The Netherlands-based galley equipment specialist suggests using the boiler for everything from simple hot water to boiling eggs to heating baby food. The pot itself can be removed and carried throughout the aircraft for service.
Despite having lost out to Rolls-Royce in the competition to power Dassault’s still-under-wraps super-midsize Falcon, Snecma is moving ahead with development its Silvercrest engine for business jets. The French manufacturer (Booth No. 824) is here exhibiting a full-size mockup of the 10,000-pound-thrust-class turbofan.
Technofan is demonstrating its new cooling fans here at the Paris Air Show (Hall 2B Stand D13). The Safran group subsidiary’s design engineers are working to further improve ventilation systems for passenger cabins, avionics bays and wheel brakes. On the new A380 airliner, for instance, a series of innovations is already making cooling fans smarter.
