In a move to adopt Western standards to a greater extent, Russian Helicopters is introducing an “advanced after-sales service system” through subsidiary Helicopter Service. The new approach, which is built on “integrated logistic support,” uses new procedures to certify service centers.
Russian Helicopters pledges maintenance will be easier thanks to the widespread introduction of information technology. Parts will be available for order online and aircraft documentation will be available in electronic format.
Ontario’s troubled air ambulance provider, Ornge, has been approved for patient transport to and from the U.S. after successful completion of an FAA review process. “The hard work, dedication and know-how of our entire aviation team has paid off with a successful application to fly Ornge helicopters to the U.S.” said Ron McKerlie, interim CEO of Ornge. “While helicopter patient transports to the U.S.
The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) will resume contract night helicopter firefighting operations in Southern California next year. The announcement was made recently after the USFS evaluated a study it commissioned that was completed in 2010. That study found that helicopter night operations can mitigate the costs and risks of wildfires by retarding their size.
The FAA announced September 7 that it would launch an investigation into the Lee County, Fla. MedStar helicopter EMS program. MedStar is operated by the county’s Division of Public Safety and flies a Bell 430 and an MBB BO105. Lee County abruptly shuttered MedStar, at the time it said temporarily, August 21 and terminated its pilots and top managers following reports of operational deficiencies and billing irregularities; however, the program had been under strain since the Aug.
The FAA is proposing an Airworthiness Directive for the Eurocopter AS332C, AS332L and AS332L1. It is based on reports of electro-valve power supply disruptions while the helicopter is on the ground. It causes the landing gear to retract and the helicopter nose to drop, resulting in damage to the forward section of the helicopter’s underside. The AD would require modifying the main landing-gear control panel 33G, connector 100G and wiring.
The FAA issued a proposed rule on Tuesday that is aimed at reducing noise generated by new helicopters certified under Part 36 (noise standards) of the FARs. If adopted, the rule would impose standards already adopted by ICAO.
Russian Helicopters and CAE are studying the joint development of helicopter flight simulators and pilot training programs in Tomilino, near Moscow. They will also discuss the joint creation of training centers elsewhere in Russia and other countries, the companies said. Under the proposed partnership, Russian Helicopters would “gain access to CAE’s technologies,” while CAE will in turn “have the opportunity to promote its products for Russian-built helicopters.”
The FAA has issued an airworthiness directive for all Eurocopter SA365N, SA365N1, SA366G1, AS365N2, AS365N3, EC155B and EC155B1s. The AD was prompted by the discovery of a cracked main rotor mast nut. This condition, if not corrected, could lead to complete failure of the mast nut, resulting in failure of the rotor mast and loss of control of the helicopter.
