Pilots of a Sikorsky S-92A from Norway’s Norsk Helikopter put out a Mayday call one day near the end of March, after being warned of a major drop in main rotor gearbox oil pressure while approaching an oil platform. Eurocopter is celebrating the 50th anniversary of one of its most popular helicopters–the Sud-Aviation (SA) 318 Alouette (Skylark). In May 1955, the second prototype of Sud-Aviation’s new turbine single took to the air for the first time near Paris. Eurocopter is concerned that some pilots could confuse different versions of the AS 350B3 Ecureuil single-turbine helicopter that feature different kinds of engine control. In a mixed-fleet operation, a pilot could use an incorrect procedure after failure of the engine control. Older variants of the twist grip power control present greater risk of error, the manufacturer’s customer support department notes.

The region also has a good year-round average climate. It is well equipped with navigation aids and near to airports such as Biarritz and Bordeaux.”
Paris-based Héli-Union, which operates a fleet of 35 mostly twin-engine helicopters mainly for oil majors, has signed a draft joint venture operating agreement with Kazakhstan’s leading oil group. As part of the collaborative accord with Euro-Asia Air, in June the company took delivery of Eurocopter’s 800th Dauphin, which began operations in Kazakhstan in August.
