The new passenger terminal at the London Heliport was officially opened on July 13. The facility is operated and managed by PremiAir on behalf of its parent company von Essen Group, which is due to open its new Hotel Verta on the same site next month.

Located at Battersea on the south bank of the Thames River, the London Heliport remains the UK capital’s sole licensed heliport.

Residents of lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, N.Y., are flooding officials with noise complaints in the days since helicopter tour flights relocated to the South Street Seaport heliport after they were banned from the West Side Heliport effective April 1. South Street is owned by New York’s Economic Development Corporation.

India has introduced dedicated visual flight route (VFR) corridors for helicopters at the Delhi and Mumbai airports to enhance capacity and efficiency of rotorcraft operations. Helicopter operators, which have been delayed by congestion at the nation’s large airports, have been demanding this change for some time.

The Royal Air Force’s Northolt base in west London will accept civilian helicopter flights starting January 1. Initially this will be for a six-month trial period and hangar accommodation will also be offered, subject to availability, for up to five days. Northolt is about a 40-minute drive from the center of London. The UK capital’s only other public heliport is located at Battersea on the south bank of the River Thames.

The French government launched a study to add several helipads in the Paris area before the summer of 2011. Meetings of civil aviation authorities, a helicopter lobby and other parties next month will start defining where helipads are needed. Dominique Bussereau, secretary of state in charge of transports, has announced that economic factors will determine the additional public sites for helicopter takeoff and landing.

You can’t find a solution until you’ve defined the problem. That’s the motivation behind a survey launched by Raymond A. Syms Associates intended to pull together heliport general information and create a database that will help improve heliport safety.

Bell 407, Bow, N.H., Dec. 22, 2008–The Speedway Aviation helicopter lost power about 3.5 miles from the destination heliport, Brigham Heliport in Pembroke, and made a forced landing in Bow. The commercial pilot said there were no caution or warning lights, and the fadec remained in automatic mode. He did not notice any unusual noises or yawing of the helicopter before the shutdown.
