Russian airlines Aeroflot and UTair, along with leasing group Aviation Capital Services (ACS), have ordered 126 of Honeywell Aerospace’s avionics suites for various new aircraft that they have on order.
Chromalloy has entered into a repair license and supplier agreement with Honeywell. The 10-year agreement covers aircraft engine components and engineering services for parts, and special coating processes.
Chromalloy will repair and manufacture gas path components and provide thermal barrier coatings and other materials for aircraft engines.Under the repair license agreement the company will perform repairs and provide material support for Honeywell and the engines and mechanical systems currently operated by its customers around the world.
Columbus, Ohio-based Spirit Avionics has topped $10 million in global aircraft parts sales in less than a year, a 60-percent increase over last year’s sales. The company’s global parts support division distributes, sells and brokers new, overhauled and exchange parts and components through a network of OEMs and vendors. The global parts support division also manages component repairs, rentals, spares acquisition and surplus inventory consignment, and offers Rockwell Collins Casp and Honeywell Happ avionics warranty programs.
Business aviation’s hopes for the famous BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) were somewhat dented last year by mixed economic fortunes across the board, but they continue to be the focus of long-term optimism.
Technicians at Ruag Aviation’s facility in Geneva, Switzerland, have completed the company’s first EASy II avionics upgrade in a Falcon 900EX. The EASy flight deck is based on Honeywell’s Primus Epic avionics system. The EASy II upgrade was done during a scheduled A/A+ check and includes Honeywell’s SmartView synthetic vision system (SVS) with HUD symbology displayed on the PFDs.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said on Friday it plans to order inspections of the wiring associated with the emergency locator transmitters (ELTs) on Boeing 787s following a recommendation from the UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch that operators disable the airplanes’ Honeywell-made systems. An Advisory Directive scheduled for publication today would require inspection for proper wire routing and damaged or pinched wires, the statement said. Operators would also need to inspect the transmitter’s battery compartment for condensation or overheating.
The first of VistaJet’s 50 Bombardier Global 5000s and 6000s ordered last November has been enrolled in the JSSI program. The long-term $205 million deal, announced at EBACE, will cover the Global 5000s’ and 6000s’ Rolls-Royce BR710 engines and Honeywell APUs under JSSI’s hourly-cost maintenance program.
Satcom Direct has signed an agreement with Honeywell to be a distributor for the Inmarsat GX Aviation Ka-band service, for which Honeywell itself is a value-added reseller. The Florida-based communications specialist will also be a distributor of GX avionics equipment. The service is scheduled to be commercially available early in 2015 and is designed to offer “consistent, high-capacity broadband coverage around the world.” For example, users should be able to stream Internet content live or hold uninterrupted video calls from 30,000 feet.
Ontic has signed a license agreement with Tempe, Ariz.-based Curtiss-Wright Controls to expand its electronic and electro-mechanical portfolio for the support of pilot controls and transmitter product lines. The products, which include landing-gear levers with integral light plates and electronics, tiller modules, pilot LED checklists, flight control surface indicators, rudder trim switches and push-to-talk switches, will be moved to Ontic’s manufacturing facilities in Chatsworth, Calif., and Cheltenham, UK.
Wireless loading of avionics data is coming to Honeywell’s Primus Apex and Epic avionics suites, beginning with the Pilatus PC-12 NG. For the PC-12 NG the new wireless data loading system requires installation of an Aspen Avionics CG100P connected gateway device. In aircraft equipped with Epic avionics, hardware upgrades built into the aircraft’s avionics will facilitate wireless data loading, but a common interface for all Honeywell avionics suites will be a database loading application installed on Apple’s iPad.
