Elvis Presley’s 1962 Lockheed JetStar–the only one of the three aircraft owned by The King still in private hands–was put on the auction block December 19 at the 35th Annual Las Vegas Collector Car Auction. According to auctioneer Kruse International, the jet has never been restored and features the original exterior and interior.

The 350i is a new version of the King Air 350 with Serenity System interior soundproofing, LED lighting, electrochromic window darkening and Rockwell Collins Venue cabin entertainment/management system. The $6.526 million King Air 350i is scheduled for FAA certification and entry into service in the third quarter next year.

The First Flight Foundation received the $20,000 Annual Combs Gates Award and $20,000 from the National Aviation Hall of Fame in recognition of its restoration of the iconic Kitty Hawk, N.C. monument that honors the Wright Brothers’ first flight there in 1903, and their achievements thereafter.

BAE Systems (Booth No. 1881) is aiming its new compact and lightweight head-up display, Q-HUD, at a wide market that includes light jets. BAE claims that the new system is 50 percent lighter, significantly less costly, more reliable, generates less heat, and provides pilots with more headroom, a greater range of view and a range of head motion that is 15 times greater than conventional HUDs.

American Eurocopter is adding 150 employees at its Golden Triangle plant in Mississippi over the next 18 to 24 months to support an increased production rate of the UH-72A Lakota, its EC 145 variant for the U.S. Army. Currently 176 employees work at the plant, which also assembles AS 350 AStars and provides support for U.S. Coast Guard AS 365 Dolphins.

Business jet accidents in the first six months of this year remained the same as during the first half of last year, while the turboprop segment saw a significant increase, according to statistics released by Robert E. Breiling Associates. Part 135 jet operations improved, with 10 accidents in the first half of last year shrinking to four thus far this year.
