Aviation Fabricators (AvFab) of Clinton, Mo., recently gained an STC and PMA for its aft jump seat kits for King Air 100 and 200 series airplanes. AvFab said the fold-up seats not only improve the utility of the King Air cabin, but the list price of $14,800 a pair (unupholstered) is approximately half of Raytheon’s list price. In addition, the new product is available for immediate delivery.
Soloy Corp. has begun certification of its Turbine Pac powerplant conversion for the new Cessna 206H. The conversion installs an original Rolls-Royce 250-C20S turboprop in place of the airplane’s Lycoming IO/TIO-542 piston engine. The Olympia, Wash., firm has delivered more than 75 turbine-powered 1977 to 1986 Cessna 206s and 207s under a current certification.
The FAA presented Elliott Aviation’s Moline, Ill., and Omaha, Neb. service facilities with the Diamond Award of Excellence for aviation maintenance training for the fifth consecutive year. The honor, which is part of the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) awards program and is the highest achievement of its kind, recognizes technicians and maintenance facilities for excellence in maintenance training.
Byerly Aviation of Springfield, Ill., and Keystone Helicopter of West Chester, Pa., have both received the FAA’s prestigious Diamond Award of Excellence for participation in the maintenance technician awards program last year. The award is recognition for aviation companies that lead the industry in measurable commitment to training. The program is designed to ensure higher levels of training and knowledge for maintenance technicians.
French corporation Zodiac has purchased Scott Aviation from Tyco International, and renamed the Lancaster, Pa.-based oxygen system components supplier Avox Systems. The sale was followed by a contract from Cessna to supply Avox oxygen mask deployment containers for the new Citation Mustang very light jet.
Sikorsky Aircraft last month recognized Keystone Helicopter
for its achievement in completing and delivering the 50th S-76C+ helicopter. The aircraft is earmarked for delivery to Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering. Keystone, in Coatsville, Pa., has been the principal completion center for the S-76C+ since 2000.
West Star Aviation is now the only FBO and Air BP the only fuel supplier at Walker Field in Grand Junction, Colo., following West Star’s purchase of Timberline Aviation. However, West Star president Bob Barry promised he will maintain the former Timberline’s fuel price margins and aircraft tiedown rates. “We intend to keep fuel prices regionally competitive,” he said.
At the end of next year Dassault will start delivering its newest business jet, the Falcon 900DX. Intended to “fill a niche” between the $35 million 900EX and the $25 million 2000EX, the $32 million 900DX will have Dassault’s EASy flight deck and will be powered by three Honeywell TFE-731-60 turbofans, the same engines as on the 900EX.
The Premier I has been involved in four landing overruns since the Raytheon Aircraft light jet entered service in the summer of 2001. In each mishap, there was substantial damage to the airplane but no occupants were injured. Failure of the
lift-dump spoilers to deploy has been implicated in at least two of the mishaps.
Raisbeck Engineering has named Naples Jet Center an authorized installation center. Naples Jet Center will promote, sell and install Raisbeck King Air Performance Systems to current and prospective customers. The Florida facility is a new FBO that offers maintenance, avionics and sales.
