Stage III Technologies, which received an STC two years ago this month for its hush kit for Gulfstream IIs and IIIs, plans to have its long-awaited first installation under way in August at Western Jet in Van Nuys, Calif. The kit, which pairs a mixer nozzle with an ejector shroud, yields a 50-percent reduction in noise, according to the company. A thrust reverser that the company says is good for 10,000 cycles is also included.
LaJolla, Calif.-based Stage III Technologies, which in December received an STC for its Stage 3 hush kit for the Gulfstream IISP, expects to receive by the end of summer certification for installation of its kit on the GIII, GIIB and GII, including Stage 1 GIIs. Unlike the already certified systems offered by Really Quiet and Quiet Technology Aerospace, the Stage III system has no moving parts.
Word was circulating last month that the weight of the Quiet Technology hush kit fitted to the Gulfstream III that crashed on November 22 while landing at Houston to pick up former President Bush might have played a role in the accident.
Stage III Technologies, which 18 months ago received an STC for its Stage 3 hush kit/cascade thrust reverser for Gulfstream IIs and IIIs, plans to have its long-awaited first installation under way in February at Western Jet in Van Nuys, Calif.
Quiet Technology Aerospace reports it recently installed its 45th Gulfstream Stage 3 hush kit. As the only viable provider of hush kits, the company sees a potential market of 350-plus GIIs, GIIBs and GIIIs “that are in a condition whereby the investment in a hush kit would be warranted.” The Opa Locka, Fla. company also said that its “break-even” point will come around installation 75.
After nearly six years of development plagued by delays caused mostly by technical problems, Stage III Technologies of La Jolla, Calif., late last month said it expected to receive certification of its GII and GIII hush kit/thrust reverser combination by the middle of this month. To date, the only certified hush kit for these aircraft is available from Quiet Technology Aerospace.
Quiet Technology Aerospace (QTA) continues to install Gulfstream II and III Stage 3 hush kits at the rate of about one per month since being certified. The Opa Locka, Fla., company received an STC for the hush kit in January 2003 and expected to deliver its 20th completed aircraft last month.
Some 40 Gulfstream IIs and IIIs have been equipped with Quiet Technology Aerospace’s Stage 3 hush kit. The Opa Locka, Fla. company said GIIs and GIIIs equipped with its hush kit “can access any airport [in Europe, Asia and the U.S.] that a GIV/G450 can.”
