Corjet Europe of Madrid, Spain, has been named a Gulfstream-authorized warranty repair facility. Corjet Europe is a joint venture between Iberia and Gestair, both of which are based in Spain.
Montreal-based CAE plans to add a Global Express full-flight simulator to its training facility in Dallas next year. In addition, the company is adding a Bombardier CRJ200 level-D simulator to its Madrid training facility, doubling its CRJ platform capacity in the region. The new CRJ simulator will complement the currently installed CRJ200/900 level-D simulator in Madrid and is scheduled to enter into service early next year.
Spanish regional carrier Air Nostrum has won the ERA’s Airline of the Year Gold Award for the second time, having previously claimed top honors in 1999. This year’s silver and bronze awards were won, respectively, by Norwegian operator Wideroe and Italy’s Air Dolomiti–a result that was itself a precise repeat of last year’s award.

Siberian regional airline UTair has selected the Franco-Italian ATR 42 as its primary growth platform in the first-ever open tender for regional turboprops held by a Russian airline. UTair, ATR and Irish leasing company Magellan Air signed the respective letters of intent for five used ATR 42-300s on August 5, some three weeks before the parties expected to sign a firm contract.
Swissport Executive Aviation (SEA) is preparing for a November start up of business aircraft handling operations at Spain’s Malaga Airport from the general aviation terminal. It will compete with existing handling groups General Aviation Services, United Airport Services, Servisair, Sart and Iberia, although the latter three companies are largely focused on airline handling.
Airbus believes it is close to correcting a fuel management software glitch that contributed to a Virgin Atlantic Airways A340-600 diversion earlier this year. In related work, Airbus also has begun a fleet-wide retrofit program that should eliminate false fuel system fault messages.
Gestair makes a fair claim to being Spain’s leading business aviation group, with about 60 percent of the national executive charter market. It also claims to be the third-ranking operator for the whole of Europe in terms of the number of aircraft operated and passengers carried.
