For decades, painting airplanes has been a craft passed down in tribal fashion from one generation to the next, but with more understanding of how than why any particular process worked.

Eight StandardAero aircraft paint technicians have completed the Embry-Riddle Aeronautics University/Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) program in aircraft painting. The six-week program confers a license in Aerospace Coatings Application (ACA) to those paint technicians who complete the course and pass an examination administered by an SSPC proctor.

StandardAero is the first MRO to implement the ACA program into its paint operations.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, The Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) and Honda Aircraft have announced the development of the industry’s first certification for aerospace coatings applicators. Jason O’Neal, Michael Garza, Eliot Ewald and Jeffrey Varner, all Honda Aircraft employees, are the first four recipients of the new certification.

Derco Aerospace has signed a 12-month nonexclusive deal with 3M’s Aerospace and Aircraft Maintenance department to distribute its complete lineup of surface-protection products for a range of military aircraft. The agreement covers the use of 3M protective coatings, which include polyurethane protective boots and tapes that help prevent corrosion and so extend service life.
