Flir Systems is introducing its new Star Safire family of high-definition cameras that it says will mean operators no longer having to compromise on performance because their aircraft cannot carry larger, heavier equipment. The new range of camera gimbals use common mounting hardware and cabling and, according to the U.S. manufacturer, weigh barely half of other systems (less than 50 pounds versus around 100 pounds).

L-3 Cincinnati Electronics says that its new NightWarrior 640 mid-wave infrared imaging system is a major technical advance. Designed for carriage by unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) and other small applications, the camera is five times smaller and lighter than previous MWIR systems, and draws four times less power, according to the maker.

Ulrich Dembinski, CEO of Revue Thommen, announced that the company has sold the first lot of searchlights to a major OEM. The company is not yet disclosing the customer.

Revue Thommen unveiled a new, compact searchlight with optional infrared (IR) filtering and laser-designator capability here at Heli-Expo.

Blue Green Technology is here at EBACE (Stand 1977) exhibiting its Vigiplane security system for parked aircraft. The device, which operates autonomously from the aircraft systems and does not require certification, immobilizes aircraft through a special nose wheel chock.
