Sikorsky Aircraft has selected TrueNorth Avionics’ Simphone airborne telephone systems as OEM standard options on new S-76 series and S-92 helicopters. TrueNorth, exhibiting at Booth No. 1671, provides airmobile Iridium and Inmarsat voice, fax and data equipment for general aviation users.
With this summer’s acquisition of Sky Connect by parent EMS Technologies, EMS Satcom can now offer full worldwide satellite communication coverage. Sky Connect, which continues to operate from Takoma Park, Md., offers tracking, text messaging and telephone service for airborne, ground and marine applications over the Iridium satellite network.

Thrane & Thrane introduced an Iridium satcom system filter to eliminate the effects an Inmarsat satcom system might have on an Iridium system installed in the same aircraft. It will enable the simultaneous use of Inmarsat and Iridium voice/data communication systems.

Inmarsat, which last year rolled out its Swift64 airborne satellite Internet service, is seeing its voice and data mix changing as it expands its high-speed data capabilities. And the global mobile satellite communications provider reported there is “significant and continuing demand” for its services arising from global security concerns.
Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband satellite Internet service is available so far on only a handful of business jets, and one of them was parked at TAG Aviation throughout last month’s Farnborough International Airshow.
