Japan’s first indigenous commercial passenger jet, the MRJ, is on track to make its first flight this year, according to Hideo Egawa, chairman and CEO of Mitsubishi Aircraft. While Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has long contributed components and assemblies in support of other manufacturer’s projects, the next-generation MRJ represents its first designed and produced passenger jet. Indeed, Egawa described the task of integrating all the efforts to produce the regional jet as one of the biggest challenges Mitsubishi Aircraft has faced since its launch in 2008.

Embraer delivered 40 aircraft in the third quarter, including 27 airliners and 13 business jets (11 light and two large jets), the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer announced yesterday. The company has shipped 129 aircraft in the first nine months–83 E-jet airliners and 46 business jets (40 light and six large jets)–which equates to 10 more airliners, but three fewer business jets, than it delivered in the same period last year.
Jet Expo 2011, which started yesterday and concludes tomorrow, is being held entirely at Moscow Vnukovo-3 business aviation center for the first time, with the static display located close by the Indoor space. This is a major departure from previous shows, when the company booths were at Crocus City Hall, some 20 miles away from the static line at Moscow Vnukovo Airport.
Jet Aviation Basel, one of Europe’s largest completion facilities, has to live with the long lead times unavoidable in its business, but they can be a blessing in recessionary times. The company has a several-year backlog for large airline-sized aircraft and a little less for purpose-built business jets, which should allow it to bridge a possible reduction in new orders.
Associated Air Center, the overhaul, maintenance and modification center based in Dallas, Texas, announced that chief operating officer Jack Lawless is taking on additional responsibilities and will serve as the company’s new business leader. Cedar Jet Center on Beirut’s Hariri International Airport has begun offering aircraft maintenance in a newly dedicated hangar in partnership with Masco, one
of two authorized service providers in Lebanon.
The EASA-approved facility has already completed Airbus Corporate Jetliner major overhaul checks. The company also offers line maintenance for aircraft all the way down to the Eclipse 500 very light jet.
Beirut FBO Cedar Jet Center has started offering aircraft maintenance services in partnership with its MEA group sister company MASCO. Next month, the joint venture will open a new hangar dedicated to maintenance operations.
UK-based aircraft management and charter operator Twinjet Aviation is assessing several possible locations for a new base here in the Arabian Gulf region. According to CEO Keith McMann, being established permanently in this part of the world would improve prospects for securing more management contracts in a market he still expects to achieve 15- to 20-percent growth despite serious economic problems in the wider world.
