CRS Jet Spareshas named Luis Tapiato its Repair Control Group as acustomer advocate in the role ofrepair control coordinator. The CRS RCG, responsible for vendor and asset management, interfaces with customers on managing repairs and providing technical information. Tapia is an A&P mechanic and has been in the aviation industry for more than 20 years in roles ranging from component repairman, manager of a repair station, sales regional manager to purchasing manager for a charter flight department.

Greenpoint Aerospace has acquired Jet Works Air Center, a business aircraft completion, refurbishment and MRO facility at Denton (Texas) Municipal Airport. Greenpoint plans to perform interior refurbishment and executive completion work, exterior paint, avionics repair and installation and MRO work at the new location. .

Russian business aviation services group Avcom is stepping up its efforts to improve its maintenance, repair and overhaul network by opening a new support base at Irkutsk in western Siberia. The Moscow-based company is now preparing to open other MRO operations in Khabarovsk (in the far east of Russia) and Omsk in the Urals region, as well as at Samara in the west of the vast country.

GA Telesis has acquired an inventory of new, overhauled, serviceable rotable and expendable material for the Bombardier Q400. The material is available for immediate purchase. All of the components are warehoused at the company’s distribution center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. GA Telesis can also support spare engine needs of Q400 operators.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s first massive open online course, “The Human Factor in Aviation,” will focus on the psychological and physiological elements that contribute to aircraft accidents. The five-week course is free and open to the public. Class begins August 19 and is limited to the first 500 students registered.

Greenwich AeroGroup announced today that Atlantic Aero in Greensboro, N.C., and Western Aircraft in Boise, Idaho, have received AS9110 quality system certifications. Now all three Greenwich AeroGroup maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) service centers are AS certified. The internationally recognized AS9110 standard focuses on MRO services and is an offshoot of the AS9100 standard that addresses the aviation industry. “We are extremely pleased with these achievements,” said Greenwich AeroGroup senior v-p Jeff Mihalic.

The executive charter sector appears not to be making a promising start in the Northern Hemisphere summer season, according to the latest demand projections from online charter portal Avinode. As of June 5, the company’s forward-looking demand index showed anticipated aircraft bookings for the next 30 days generally down compared with the May 5 index.
