Aspen Avionics is now offering ADS-B solutions for owners of its Evolution PFD and MFD products. There are two ADS-B product lines, one for delivery of ADS-B data from portable receivers to Aspen’s Connected Panel system and another for certified ADS-B solutions that meet the Jan. 1, 2020 ADS-B out mandate.
Esterline CMC Electronics has something new to show Farnborough International Airshow visitors, a touchscreen display that is part of CMC’s new Cockpit 4000 Next Gen, a technology demonstrator for future military training and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance attack aircraft.
Connectors Deliver More Data to iPads
The growing popularity of Apple’s iPad as a Class 1 electronic flight bag (EFB) has captured the interest of avionics manufacturers, and at last month’s Aircraft Electronics Association show two new devices that connect iPads to aircraft data were unveiled.
Avidyne is nearing certification of an interface between its DFC90 autopilot and Aspen’s EFD1000. Avidyne and Aspen Avionics are demonstrating Avidyne’s new digital autopilot interfaced with Aspen’s EFD1000 Pro primary flight display (PFD) at Sun ’n’ Fun in two flight-test aircraft: a Cessna 182 and a Cirrus SR22. The DFC90 is currently certified in the Cirrus and the Piper PA-46 equipped with Avidyne Entegra displays.
Esterline CMC Electronics has secured the launch customer for its SmartDeck avionics suite–the twin-turboprop EV-55 Outback utility airplane under development by Czech Republic-based aircraft manufacturer Evektor.
According to Evektor marketing manager Petr Grebenicek, Avidyne and Garmin avionics were under consideration, too.
Phoenix Heliparts and Aspen Avionics, manufacturer of the Evolution flight display system, are preparing to receive an FAA supplemental type certificate for the installation of Aspen’s H-series primary flight displays (PFD) and multifunction flight displays (MFD) in the MD500. Aspen’s H-series PFD and MFD systems are designed and manufactured specifically for the helicopter operational environment.
At EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, Rockwell Collins welcomed visitors to its pleasantly air-conditioned pavilion to share new technologies that are coming soon to cabin-class cockpits, including a touchscreen interface for the Pro Line Fusion avionics suite. Rockwell Collins tested the touchscreen concept extensively with focus groups, with the goal of providing a way for pilots to keep their eyes forward instead of buried in a center console when manipulating avionics. The Rockwell Collins touchscreen PFD and MFD Pro Line Fusion system is targeted at a wide sector of the market, from single-engine turboprops and light jets to Part 25 jets.
At this year’s Paris Air Show, Esterline CMC Electronics (Hall 5 Stand 242) is showing, for the first time, the Cockpit 9000 avionics suite selected as an upgrade for Lockheed Martin C-130 cockpits.
Montreal-based Esterline CMC Electronics has acquired an exclusive technology license for L-3 Communications’ SmartDeck cockpit that will allow the firm to develop, build and market its own integrated flight deck products using L-3 technologies.
