Avionics manufacturer OP Technologies is about to enter the market for TSO’d avionics in FAA-certified airplanes. After launching its integrated cockpit avionics suite in the experimental aircraft market, OP Technologies is preparing to receive FAA Technical Standard Order (TSO) authorization for its avionics and an FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for installation of the new avionics in the Cirrus SR22.

The Magic 2100 digital flight-control system from Meggitt Avionics has gained STC approvals in the Twin Commander 690C/D and 695A/B (Models 840, 900, 980 and 1000) and the King Air 90, the company announced last month.

Landmark Aviation last month received STC approval to install Rockwell Collins’ Pro Line 21 IDS integrated display system in the Falcon 50. Developed as a replacement for older analog instrumentation, the screen swap brings added capabilities to the airplane for display of graphical weather, electronic charts and maps and flight management system overlays.

The Alliant integrated avionics and autopilot suite received FAA supplemental type certification for the Beech King Air 200 yesterday. Alliant is a partnership between autopilot manufacturer S-Tec and avionics-maker Avidyne. The King Air 200 installation includes two Avidyne Envision EXP5000 PFDs with built-in solid-state gyros and air-data system and an EX500 MFD coupled with S-Tec’s Intelli-Flight 2100 digital flight control system.

It was a close race, but in the end Brazilian airplane builder Embraer chose the Garmin G1000 avionics system for the company’s in-development very light jet and light jet, now known officially as the Phenom 100 and 300.

Garmin isn’t the only company targeting the venerable King Air turboprop with modern glass avionics (see "Garmin reveals first retrofit package for popular G1000"). Rockwell Collins last month announced avionics retrofit programs for the King Air 200 and 300 (it already supplies the avionics systems in new King Air 350s), while a pair of relative unknowns have teamed to offer an upgraded cockpit for the King Air 90.
