Organizers of the annual Sun ’n Fun Fly-In (Booth 3012) in Lakeland, Fla., traveled with current students and graduates of the Central Florida Aerospace Academy (CFAA) to EAA AirVenture 2013 to sample some of the educational opportunities available and volunteer at the EAA’s KidVenture interactive exhibit.
Officials from the Sun ’n’ Fun Fly-In and the Polk County (Fla.) School Board last month broke ground on a $7.5 million facility that will house the Central Florida Aerospace Academy (CFAA), an aviation-oriented high school/career academy at the Sun ’n’ Fun organization’s Lakeland (Fla.) Airport headquarters. The facility will house up to 500 high school students at CFAA when it opens in August next year.
The Columbia group of aviation companies announced last month it has acquired Lakeland Air Service at Lakeland (Fla.) Linder Municipal Airport (LAL). The acquisition marks the sixth facility for the Columbia FBO network and the first outside the Northeast. Columbia is based in Groton, Conn. The new FBO will be known as Columbia Air Services-LAL and competes with Landmark (formerly Piedmont Hawthorne), the other FBO at LAL.
