Transport Canada last month notified the FAA of a potentially dangerous fuel system defect in Bombardier’s new CRJ700 regional jet, prompting the U.S. agency to issue an emergency AD for the model. According to Transport Canada, CRJ700s may experience uncommanded fuel transfer between the wing tanks and the center tank, creating a condition in which the center tank can overfill and leak.
Transport Canada (TC) fined Montreal-based Air Transat, the country’s largest charter airline, C$250,000 ($160,500) for improper maintenance on the Airbus A330-200 that glided to a safe landing in the Azores during a nighttime transatlantic crossing on August 24.
Four reported incidents of in-flight loss of hydraulic fluid led to an emergency AD being issued Friday for the 139 in-service Premier Is. None of the incidents led to any mishaps, according to Raytheon Aircraft. The problem has been traced to the failure of a hydraulic tube assembly in the left engine. The directive requires a visual inspection of the affected part before further flight and thereafter at intervals of 50 hours.
