Townsend Leather of Johnstown, N.Y., and Scotchgard Protector from 3M have reached an exclusive agreement that will add “high-performance protective treatments” to Townsend leathers. The Scotchgard Protector treatment is being incorporated into the manufacturing process for much of Townsend’s aniline leather product line and is available for other leathers on request.

One of the difficulties with natural leather hide is that it doesn’t stretch consistently, making it difficult for upholsterers to work and resulting in more loss than desirable during the cutting process. Tapis’ new “two-way stretch tapisuede” has a polyester and polyurethane composition and comes in a maximum width of 59 inches and 33-yard rolls. According to the Armonk, N.Y.

E-Leather, from the company of the same name, is leather, but not in a form that a cow ever wore. It’s a unique blend of untanned leather shavings and textiles that the Peterborough, England company has been developing over a period of 10 years. The product was introduced to the aviation industry at the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2007
in Hamburg, Germany.

With Florida’s tropical Everglades as the theme, Jet Aviation designers and interior artisans recently delivered a refurbished Falcon 20 to a Florida-based private owner. The tropical motif includes a custom-woven carpet of pale green with darker green tropical foliage, a sea turtle and alligator. The cabin sidewall coverings are of a wicker rattan design.

The Crypton process began in West Bloomfield, Mich., at Hi Tex some 17 years ago as a way to make textiles more resistant to spills and stains. Now it will increase the durability of the leather in your business jet. Three years ago, Edelman Leather and Hi Tex began developing a Crypton formula for leather topcoat, and the New Milford, Conn. company introduced it at the NBAA Convention in October as an exclusive product.
