A British court on July 26 upheld a 2009 regulatory ruling against the British Airport Authority (BAA), which means that the company must sell Stansted Airport (EGSS). The BAA decided to fight the forced sale in court after the 2009 decision.

London’s Stansted Airport is set to get a fourth FBO, with The Diamond Hangar scheduled to open in time for the start of the 2012 Olympic Games on July 27. The new venture is trading on the Aero Toy Store brand, and its main shareholder is Ben Shirazi, son of the U.S. aircraft sales and completions group’s founder, Morris Shirazi.
Hawker Beechcraft, currently in bankruptcy protection, continues to expand its global footprint. The OEM’s Global Customer Support (GCS) has appointed EASA Part 145-approved Gama Support Services at Farnborough Airport, UK, to its worldwide network of limited service centers to support the King Air 200, 250, 300 and 350 and the Premier business jet. In addition, Gama Support Services will support the Baron and Bonanza as an authorized service center.
Business aviation ground transportation specialist First Class Cars has set up a base at Farnborough Airport. The new operation has been established to be ready to respond to increased demand expected from this summer’s Olympic Games and the Farnborough Air Show. It also will be working closely with the nearby Aviator Hotel to provide a convenient connection to TAG’s terminal building.
Universal Aviation has opened an FBO at Venice’s Marco Polo Airport. The 24/7 facility offers ground handling, fuel and trip-support services, as well as concierge and customs, immigration and quarantine. The Venice base augments the company’s three other Italian bases at Rome Ciampino Airport and Milan’s Malpensa and Linate airports.
Welcome to the much improved London Southend Airport, where upgrades over just the past year have launched the quiet airfield squarely into the competitive ranks of airports serving the greater London area.
One of the airports most conveniently placed for access to the northeast side of London, where the main Olympic venue is situated, is Stansted. Located right next to the venue, London City will be in high demand, and airports such as Southend, Luton and Biggin Hill also are likely to prove popular with business/private aircraft operators and owners.
The UK Competition Commission last week confirmed that BAA, the UK airports group purchased by Spain’s Ferrovial Group in 2006, must sell London Stansted Airport and one of its Scottish airports, Edinburgh or Glasgow.
Here in the Dubai sunshine it is easy to forget the extent to which snow and ice can delay and disrupt aircraft operations, especially in the world of business aviation where schedules can be tight yet priority at snowbound airfields is low.
On November 19, Embraer delivered the first Legacy 650. It went to Amsair Aircraft, which is owned by Lord Alan Sugar, and will be based at London Stansted Airport. The bizliner will be operated by Titan Airways Executive, an air charter firm at Stansted.
