Aircraft charter and management firm Talon Air added four new Hawker 4000s to its Part 135 certificate this week. The super-midsize jets are based at Talon’s new 100,000-sq-ft hangar and office complex at New York’s Republic Airport in Farmingdale, Long Island. With nine Hawker 4000s on its charter certificate–nearly one-fifth of the in-service fleet of this type–Talon remains the largest owner and operator of these twinjets in the world.
Wilson Technological Center at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, N.Y., has received a Gulfstream II from JFI Jets owner and Long Island resident Arik Kislin. The retired aircraft, once owned by Frank Sinatra and more recently Harrison Ford, will serve as a training jet for students in the aviation maintenance technology program at Wilson Tech’s Republic Airport campus. “I love this airplane and truly hate to see her grounded, but after 44 years of service her time has come,” Kislin told AIN.
Charter/management provider ExcelAire announced during EBACE that it has received approval to operate its five Embraer Legacy 600s into London City Airport (LCY). Located in the heart of London, LCY is the closest and most convenient airport for easy access to London’s financial district.

Here at MEBA 2012, U.S. private jet charter company ExcelAire (Stand 597) is launching a new international transfer service (ITS) for passengers arriving in New York on long-haul airline flights. ExcelAire’s team will meet passengers as they arrive at either New York-John F. Kennedy or Newark International airports, and swiftly transfer them to awaiting private jets for their onward journeys.
As of today, AeroBridge had coordinated more than 70 business aircraft flights to deliver more than 100,000 pounds of relief supplies to areas of New York and New Jersey affected by Hurricane Sandy. While most business aviation travelers think of Teterboro or Westchester County Airport when flying to New York City, a third airport in the area makes a strong case to put its name into the conversation. Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip, N.Y., is less than an hour from Manhattan and its proximity a mile from the Long Island Expressway makes for convenient access to the Hamptons summer enclave at the eastern end of the island.
Hawthorne Global Aviation Services has acquired a second FBO in its bid to establish a network. The South Carolina-based company, which has an 80-year heritage in aviation, purchased a controlling interest in the Aeropremier facility at New Orleans Lakefront Airport and will rebrand it as a Hawthorne property. The location, which completed extensive renovations earlier this year, has more than 50,000 sq ft of hangar space and can accommodate aircraft up to the size of a G550.
