Japan’s Narita International Airport is to open its first executive aviation terminal next year. The announcement, which was made at NBAA 2011 in Las Vegas on October 10, is an endorsement of the efforts Narita and the Japan Business Aviation Association have put into developing private aviation in the country.

Landmark Aviation inaugurated the new Customs and Border Patrol facility at its Los Angeles International Airport location last month. The 1,400-sq-ft addition was designed in conjunction with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office and includes a holding cell, agricultural room, clearance space, computer room and additional office space.

A trio of California congressmen have drafted legislation they hope will allow Bob Hope Burbank Airport and Van Nuys Airport to adopt operations curfews. The Valley-Wide Noise Relief Act seeks to exempt the two airports from the 1990 Airport Noise and Capacity Act (ANCA), which has prevented them from adopting comprehensive nighttime bans.

Australia’s Qantas Airways today kicked off scheduled service with its new Airbus A380 between Los Angeles and Melbourne, Australia. The first Qantas flight from Melbourne to the U.S. on the jumboliner landed on Runway 25L at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at about 7:30 a.m.

Renovations are complete at the Million Air Victorville at Southern California Logistics Airport. The facility features a 10,000-sq-ft terminal with pilot lounge, theater, flight-planning room, coffee bar, café and quiet rooms. The airport is about 80 miles northeast of Los Angeles and offers a 15,050-foot runway, the second longest in the U.S.

American Eagle last month announced plans to launch regional jet service from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) beginning next month, with service to Albuquerque, N.M., Phoenix and Oakland, Calif. A long-time turboprop operator at LAX, American Eagle plans to provide the service with new 44-seat Embraer ERJ-140s.
