In a bid to cut traffic at Teterboro Airport, N.J., airport operator The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is proposing a four-pronged assault that would ban Stage 2 aircraft, ban the Federal Reserve from flying checks at night, ban aircraft with an mtow of more than 80,000 pounds (20,000 less than the current limit) and raise landing fees. The move comes hot on the heels of victory in the U.S.
Los Angeles World Airports
Van Nuys Airport, Calif., the busiest general aviation airfield in the world and already subject to a noise curfew applicable to Stage 2 and “noisier” Stage 3 airplanes, is now the target of an “attempt to implement multiple proposed noise and access restrictions,” according to Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), the operating authority for VNY.
Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is busy trying to figure out how to hasten the phaseout of Stage 2 business jets at Van Nuys Airport (VNY). The L.A. Board of Airport Commissioners directed VNY operator LAWA to pursue a program that is provided for under what the board claims is a grandfather clause in federal law whereby Stage 2 operations would be phased out over a seven-year period.
The Los Angeles World Airport Authority (LAWA) recently awarded a $6.5 million, three- to five-year contract to Harris Miller Miller and Hanson (HMMH) of Burlington, Mass., to conduct simultaneous FAR Part 161 (noise-control) studies at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Van Nuys Airport (VNY).
On February 1, LAWA, which owns and operates Van Nuys, issued a request for proposal for demolition of existing buildings and development of a new facility at 16200 Daily Drive, location of The Jet Center, a former Garrett Aviation Services completions and refurb facility.
Stage 2 jets are under attack again at Van Nuys Airport (VNY) in Southern California. The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners directed Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), which operates VNY, to consider an alternative to spur elimination of Stage 2 jet operations.
