Miami-based Aero Turbine, a subsidiary of the International Lease Finance Corp. (ILFC) that markets engines and aircraft parts, and Lufthansa Technik have announced their intention to enter into a partnership. Under the terms of the agreement AeroTurbine will supply Lufthansa Technik with aircraft and engine components, while Lufthansa Technik will provide technical services and supply AeroTurbine with surplus material for resale.
Lufthansa Technik is introducing its environmentally friendly clear varnish to the business jet completion market. Like all the other materials used in aircraft construction, the high-gloss polished wooden surfaces that are typically installed in aircraft cabins have to meet safety standards set by the aviation authorities. For optical purposes and to comply with fire protection regulations, these surfaces have to be treated with effective flame retardants and clear varnishes containing a high proportion of organic solvents.
Cabin MRO, completions and refurbishment giant Lufthansa Technik (Booth 1031) is expanding its innovation engineering capability at its base in Hamburg, Germany. This year, according to Andrew Muirhead, who runs the Innovation Business Unit, the 55-person core team will be boosted by seven additional posts, and further staff positions will be required in 2014 and 2015.
Lufthansa Bombardier Aviation Services (LBAS) and tier-one cabin components supplier OHS Aviation Services have delivered their largest-ever single aircraft maintenance and refurbishment project.
The job, for an unidentified Asian client, included the first installation of Honeywell’s new Ovation Select cabin management system on a Bombardier airplane outside North America, according to LBAS parent company Lufthansa Technik.
Lufthansa Technik is offering a new product bundle for life-cycle support of large private and business aircraft. The service packages include access to a pool of highly qualified engineers and mechanics, worldwide material support through the Lufthansa Technik logistics network, and assured support in case of AOG incidents and other emergencies.
“Our customers will get 24/7 global free-of-charge troubleshooting hotline support for up to 10 man hours as an airside assistance regardless of where the aircraft operates,” said Walter Heerdt, senior v-p of marketing and sales. “This means that after signing a standby support agreement, no further fees or charges will apply until the customer requests additional service at prior agreed-to prices and conditions.”
Engineering and troubleshooting questions will be handled by Lufthansa Technik’s central maintenance control center.
Lufthansa Technik has signed a two-year contract with an undisclosed VIP customer in Asia to provide comprehensive technical support for two ACJ319s, the Hamburg, Germany-based company announced yesterday at ABACE. The support contract extends from line maintenance to full provisioning with components and materials, including logistics, maintenance management and CAMO services.
Lufthansa Technik (Booth H108) proved here yesterday that it is the market leader of narrowbody and widebody VIP completions for Asian customers, having outfitted 16 of 21 bizliners based in the region. “Asia has one of the highest growth rates for the VIP aircraft market,” according to Lufthansa Technik senior vice president of marketing and sales Walter Heerdt.
Hundreds of exhibitors at the Aircraft Interiors Expo, to be held in Hamburg, Germany from April 9 to 11, are from the business aviation sector. Among some 60 new exhibitors is Satcom Direct, a global satellite communications provider. Other exhibitors range from smaller suppliers such as U.S. window treatment specialist Lou Martin & Associates to heavyweights such as cabin completion and MRO provider Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg.
Lufthansa Technik Switzerland in Basel has been unable to sustain its operations and will be closing its two line maintenance and logistics services businesses at the end of April.
“We will no longer have any operations at Basel Airport. We’re leaving the facility permanently,” a spokesman for the MRO told AIN. According to the company, the plant closure will lead to 31 job terminations, though another 29 employees will transfer to Swiss at the Basel site.
