Computer-generated virtual cabin concepts for Boeing’s latest large bizliners are appearing with some regularity as the order book for the executive/VIP versions of the company’s 787 and 747-8 grow.

One of the most recent is a 787 interior from BMW Group DesignworksUSA, created for a fictitious Russian client in his mid-30s–a global traveler who would be spending a significant amount of time in the air.

A Lufthansa Technik design team led by Alexandra Broekelmann worked closely with Comlux to create a cabin that was functional within standardized parameters, but that also retained the distinctive feel of a more highly personalized and costly private jet cabin.

Swiss-based aviation services provider Jet Aviation has tapped Norbert Marx as senior vice president and general manager of the company’s Basel unit. Marx succeeds 34-year company veteran Rainer Albecker, who will remain with Jet Aviation’s completions operation.

In the 30 years since its founding, PrivatAir (Booth No. 740) has fine-tuned its skills in operating airliners for executive use. While the Swiss company is involved in the FBO business–setting them up or acquiring some–and is active in executive jet management, charter and brokering, its core business is operating a fleet of large jets, including three Boeing Business Jets, one BBJ2, one Boeing 757 and four Airbus Corporate Jetliners.

The board of Deutsche Lufthansa, Europe’s second-largest airline, has approved a $1.5 billion expenditure for 30 Embraer E190s and 15 Bombardier CRJ900s.

The worldwide fleet of approximately 500 Learjet 20-series aircraft is the target for an RVSM solution offered by Olathe, Kan.-based Butler National.

Avcon Industries, a wholly owned subsidiary of Butler National, and its RVSM project partner BizJet, a Lufthansa Technik Service company, have already upgraded more than 25 airplanes with the Avcon/BizJet RVSM group solution.

Engineers from Lufthansa Technik and Thrane & Thrane have jointly developed a new mobile access router as a key component of Lufthansa Technik’s networked integrated cabin equipment, nicknamed Nice. The router will be the main interface to all devices on the Nice network, providing wireless laptop connectivity and other data access through Inmarsat’s Swift64 service and Gatelink (802.11b and -g).
