Malaysian Airlines has signed a deal with Canada’s Viking Air to take six new 19-seat Twin Otter Series 400s for use in scheduled service by its regional subsidiary MASwings. Viking plans to deliver all the airplanes by the end of next year.

The supply of parts, assemblies and services for Boeing products has created valuable new economic opportunities in Southeast Asia in recent years. In fact, since 2009, Boeing suppliers have established aerospace manufacturing centers for commercial aircraft production in five Southeast Asia countries: Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore. Meanwhile, Boeing suppliers in other countries, including Australia and Malaysia, have added new commercial or defense manufacturing capacity to their portfolios.

UK-based ammunition specialist Chemring Group (Hall 4 A12) and Malaysia-based National Aerospace and Defence Industries (NADI) signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday that will allow NADI-owned SME Ordnance to offer Chemring’s full range of products. SME Ordnance will be able to offer military pyrotechnics and demolition materials, for example, to the Malaysian forces and those of other Southeast Asian countries.

Hawker Beechcraft (HBC) has appointed Hawker Pacific Asia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to its network of authorized service centers to support the growing fleet of King Airs in the region. Located in the Subang Airpark at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Hawker Pacific Asia is the first such facility to be authorized by HBC in Malaysia.

ATR has opened a logistics support center in Kuala Lumpur. The new facility is available to operators in the Asia-Pacific region that have signed a global maintenance agreement (GMA). The center, located in the free-trade zone of Kuala Lumpur International Airport, will offer ready access to the wide array of equipment specified in the GMA’s guarantee. Logistics company DHL Supply Chain is managing the center for ATR.
