Liebherr-Aerospace (Booth C11407) may not be a household name in the U.S., but the company is a supplier of numerous components used in aircraft for most of the major aircraft and missile manufacturers in the world, and has been doing so for more than 50 years. In a 58-page promotional magazine created specifically for NBAA 2013 visitors, the company lists 26 aviation customers, from Airbus to Thales.
NBAA 2013 visitors can choose among plenty of leather types and colors, with each supplier offering its own unique features, depending on what the customer can afford. Leather for an entire business jet cabin the size of a Falcon 2000 typically falls into the $40,000 to $60,000 range. Passionate experts in leather crafting at Edelman Leather (Booth No. N5711), Garrett Leather (N213), Green Hides Leather Studio (C10135) and Townsend Leather (N5124) also gave AIN some tricks for proper leather care.
Solid Concepts has produced multiple 3-D printed components for aerospace applications that it is highlighting at NBAA 2013 (Booth No. N2011).
The company, based in Valencia, Calif., provides rapid prototyping, digital manufacturing, tooling and injection molding to the aerospace, automotive, industrial design and medical industries. It has more than two decades of experience in 3-D printing, or additive manufacturing technologies, producing parts from prototypes to production components by accurately “printing” layers of material until a 3-D form is created.
For the first time since the used jet market began to unravel, inventory sits below the level of October 2008. Year-over-year for the past four years, more inventory has been departing the market than has been arriving onto the market and this year could prove a continuation of that trend, with inventory already below last year’s 12-month moving average as the market enters what is historically the most active quarter for aircraft sales.
Zenith Aviation, a distributor of Dornier 328 parts and spares, is seeking multiple aircraft parts and spares consignment opportunities. The company recently invested more than $3 million in additional climate-controlled warehouse space and an automated inventory storage and retrieval system. The 44,000-sq-ft warehouse can hold up to 500,000 individual line items. According to the company, the consignor retains title to the parts until they leave the Zenith warehouse.
Gulfstream Aerospace has appointed William Gibson as director of product support global distribution. In this newly created position, Gibson will manage all processes, procedures and operations related to the movement and warehousing of parts throughout the Gulfstream Product Support global distribution network. For the past 10 years Gibson worked for Honeywell, most recently as senior manager of customer operations for its space and defense segment.
Cirrus Aircraft announced the expansion of its Grand Forks, N.D. facility to accommodate a new autoclave oven in preparation for production of the all-composite Vision SF50 jet. Modifications to the Grand Forks plant began in May and the autoclave was delivered late last week, with installation now under way.
“The building housing the autoclave will be constructed around this large piece of equipment,” Cirrus said, “and is expected to be complete by the end of July with a fully operational autoclave by mid-August.”
Marenco Swisshelicopter has selected Donaldson Aerospace & Defense to provide the fuel filtration system for its new Skye SH09 helicopter. The equipment will protect the performance of the Honeywell HTS900-2 turboshaft that will power the eight-seat helicopter. Donaldson specializes in making lightweight, advanced filtration systems.
At the Paris Air Show in 2009 Liebherr Aerospace & Transportation and Thales Avionics Electrical Systems announced a memorandum of agreement covering a range of business and technological initiatives in the field of power-optimized aircraft. The first joint research project is being showcased here in the form of a mock-up of the GETI test platform.
Smac Aero, a Toulon, France-based company specializing in elastomers for soundproofing and vibration dampening, is here at the Paris Air Show (Hall 2B Stand C140-158) exhibiting Smacpreg, a combination of pre-impregnated (prepreg) carbon fibers with a layer of rubber. As CEO Philippe Robert emphasized during a visit to the company’s development and production facilities, the new product is suited to fiber placement robots.
