The FAA is revising an earlier proposed airworthiness directive for the Eurocopter BO105A/C/LS/LS A-3 and 105S. The earlier AD proposed inspecting for debonding of the erosion protective shell (abrasion strip) on the leading edge of each main rotor blade. This SNPRM proposes to revise those inspection requirements by identifying specific dates of replacement of the applicable parts and identifying a specific inspection method to discover debonding of an abrasion strip.
MBB Bo 105
The FAA announced September 7 that it would launch an investigation into the Lee County, Fla. MedStar helicopter EMS program. MedStar is operated by the county’s Division of Public Safety and flies a Bell 430 and an MBB BO105. Lee County abruptly shuttered MedStar, at the time it said temporarily, August 21 and terminated its pilots and top managers following reports of operational deficiencies and billing irregularities; however, the program had been under strain since the Aug.
American Eurocopter recently received level-D certification and is now authorized to repair and overhaul tailbooms and stabilizers for the EC 135. The company can now perform all tailboom repairs for the EC 135, EC 145, BO 105 and BK 117 at its facility in Grand Prairie, Texas.
M7 Aerospace has launched a program to support Rolls-Royce 250-series engine operators by teaming with Essential Turbines of Dorval, Quebec. The engine is installed in numerous helicopter models, including Bells, Sikorsky S-76s, MD Helicopters, Agusta 109s, Eurocopter AS 355s, MBB BO105s and others.
DRF Luftrettung at Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport has obtained an EASA Part 147 certificate as a training organization. The certification allows the company to hold EC 135, BK 117 and BO 105 helicopter type rating courses for aircraft technicians. “The training course takes five weeks and consists of an engine course as well as theoretical and practical training of two weeks each.

Princely Air Ambulance will be Pakistan’s first privately operated air ambulance company, UK-based Medical Aviation Services (MAS), which has entered a technical support agreement with Princely, announced last month. Medical Aviation Services in December sold a used Eurocopter BO 105 to the new firm. MAS is providing training in the UK on the BO 105 before it is exported.
California Shock/Trauma Air Rescue (Calstar) has completed requirements for a supplemental type certificate (STC) to re-engine the Eurocopter BO 105LS with a Rolls-Royce 250-C30. The engine modification will allow the McClellan, Calif.-based organization’s BO 105LS to provide service at higher altitudes throughout the mountainous Sierra Nevada region. In partnership with Aerometals of El Dorado Hills, Calif. (Booth No.
