Piaggio America has added three new locations–Crownair Aviation in San Diego and Carlsbad, Calif., and Constant Aviation in Birmingham, Ala.–to its list of North American authorized service centers to support the Avanti II twin turboprop. Crownair Aviation offers fuel, maintenance and avionics services at its Montgomery Airport facility in San Diego.

Crownair Aviation at Montgomery Field (MYF) in San Diego is improving and expanding its maintenance and FBO facilities in preparation for the economic turnaround. The company is in the process of obtaining city approval for the facility expansion. Crownair general manager Ray Richmond told AIN, “While we don’t expect to see a return on it in the short term, we’re confident we will over time.”

Sandel Avionics has received FAA approval for a new reversionary attitude mode for two of its electronic primary navigation displays, allowing aircraft pitch-and-roll symbology to be presented on the nav display in the event of primary attitude indicator failure. The feature is available now for the company’s SN3500 (3ATI) and SN4500 (4ATI) high-resolution, LED backlighted navigation displays.

Two new maintenance facilities have joined the Crownair Aviation portfolio: RoigWest Maintenance, a turbine aircraft maintenance service and support center at Van Nuys Airport, and West Coast Jet Services at McClellan Palomar Airport (CRQ), which will now be known as Crownair Aviation-CRQ.

San Diego-based Crownair has acquired RoigWest Maintenance, a turbine aircraft maintenance and support center at Van Nuys Airport, the third busiest general aviation airport in the world, as well as West Coast Jet Services at McClellan Palomar Airport in Carlsbad, Calif. West Coast Jet Services will now be known as Crownair Aviation CRQ. Crownair plans to expand to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in Arizona by 2010.

Cessna 560 Citation V, Carlsbad, Calif., Jan. 24, 2006–The NTSB attributed the fatal Citation V accident to the captain’s delayed decision to execute a go-around during the landing roll. Factors were his improper decision to land with a tailwind, excessive airspeed on final and his failure to touch down at the proper point.
