The FAA is proposing to issue an Airworthiness Directive requiring insertion of “revised procedures for servicing tires and checking for proper tire inflation” in Learjet 60/60XR maintenance and flight manuals.
The second half of this year will mark “significant certification testing milestones” for the GE Honda Aero Engines HF120, the turbofan that will power both the HondaJet and Spectrum S.40 Freedom, the engine partners said yesterday at EBACE.
General Electric (GE) is developing the HF120 engine jointly with Honda for the small HondaJet and midsize Spectrum S40 Freedom business jets. According to GE, the engine is on track for certification but neither it nor Honda would confirm the date for this. GE could not give a firm target period either this year or next year.
Hyannis, Mass.-based Prime Turbines has been acquired by Avatas Aerospace. The FAA-certified repair station, which specializes in the PT6 turboprop, conducts hot-section recertification, power section repair, gas generator repair, fuel nozzle overhaul and exchange, and bleed valve overhaul and exchange.
Prime is an authorized distributor of FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval parts for PT6 hot sections.
A report issued by Global Industry Analysts predicts the worldwide maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) market will reach $55.2 billion by 2015. The recently released report, “Aircraft Maintenance, Repair And Overhaul: A Global Market Report,” suggests the world market for heavy aircraft maintenance is poised to grow at a steady pace through 2015, with engine overhauls expected to expand most rapidly in the Asia-Pacific region.

A swab taken from the pilot’s-side windshield, which was fractured, was sent to the Smithsonian Institution Feather Identification Lab, which found microscopic remains of a hawk.
Naples Jet Center, based at Naples Municipal Airport, Fla., has been approved as a Venezuelan repair station by the Instituto Nacional de Aeronautica Civil Venezuela (INAC). The MRO provides maintenance and repair work on Citations, Learjets, Hawkers, Embraers and Twin Commanders. Services include avionics installation and repair, structural repair and upgrades, interior refurbishment and maintenance and inspections.
Rolls-Royce last month launched the RR500 turboshaft, a 475-shp derivative of the RR300 that powers the in-development Robinson R66. Certification is scheduled for late 2011, with deliveries pegged to begin in the first quarter of 2012.
One of Heli-Expo’09’s worst-kept secrets, the Rolls-Royce RR500 turboshaft engine, was unveiled Monday afternoon in a brief but hearing-impairment-inducing ceremony at the engine maker’s booth. The RR500 turboshaft, a 475-shp derivative of the RR300 that powers the in-development Robinson R66, is scheduled for certification in late 2011. A turboprop version of the RR500 was first announced last summer at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis.
Engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney Canada (Booth No. 624) remains committed to developing new engine products whatever the impact of the global downturn on a changing industry, according to president John Saabas. He told HAI Convention News that last year had been “a peak year” for the Canadian manufacturer.
