Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has joined the European Regions Airline Association after deciding to go ahead with marketing its proposed Mitsubishi Regional Jet series, which would enter service in 2013 powered by Pratt & Whitney geared turbofans.
Gulfstream has penned a letter of intent with Safe Flight Instrument for the supply of the latter company’s Enhanced AutoPower automatic throttle system as an option for new Gulfstream 200s, as well as for retrofit for G200s and Galaxies already in service. An STC for the system is expected by early next summer, upon the completion of 10 to 25 flight test hours.
Farnborough Aircraft’s struggling turboprop-single program has received the backing of former Rolls-Royce chairman Sir Ralph Robins and the ex-CEO of BAE Systems, John Weston. The UK company went into bankruptcy last year, but has now been restructured and is hoping to fly an F1 prototype before the end of next year and receive certification in 2007.
Flightline Group’s $24 million, four-year, multi-building development project at its Tallahassee (Fla.) Regional Airport (TLH) headquarters will soon begin to take form. By next month, construction crews will start building the company’s 26,000-sq-ft regional service center.
Pratt & Whitney Canada and the French-Russian Snecma-NPO Saturn joint venture are knocking at the door of the market for regional-jet turbofan engines. The geared-fan PW800 and the more conventional SM146 are not yet fully launched programs, but development is well under way.
AeroCourier Group of Minneapolis plans to introduce a low-wing, single-engine turboprop utility airplane that the company claims will have lower acquisition and operating costs and better performance and specifications than the current leader in the category, the Cessna Caravan. The company is also designing a unique LDX container for the airplane that will be stackable and locked together for “easy loading” into industry-standard containers.
