Electroair’s electronic ignition system is now a factory option for Aviat Aircraft’s Husky utility piston single-engine airplane. Electroair added the Husky to its Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approved model list just before EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, according to Michael Kobylik, president of the Howell, Mich.-based company. Electroair is working with Aviat on certification of the electronic ignition system for six-cylinder Lycomings in the Pitts Special and in Aviat’s Eagle biplane kit.
The engineering team at Gap-Tallard, France-based Beringer Wheels & Brakes has devised a new tailwheel design to help prevent ground loops in tailwheel-equipped airplanes. The patented “tailwheel with double pivot” essentially is a lockable tailwheel that is steerable while in the locked position. Beringer also announced that it has received a supplemental type certificate for a complete Cirrus SR20/22 replacement wheel and brake system with Beringer’s anti-lock inline regulator (ALIR) anti-skid braking feature.
GE has completed its acquisition of Turin, Italy-based Avio’s aviation components and systems business for $3.4 billion. Renamed Avio Aero, the new division furthers GE’s participation and expertise in the areas of mechanical transmission systems, low-pressure turbines, combustion technology and automation systems. Avio Aero has content on several GE engines, ranging from the CT7/T700 turboshaft series for helicopters to the GE90 and GEnx turbofan engines for airliners.
Vector Aerospace Helicopter Services North America (HSNA) has named Eric Hicks as regional sales director for Western Canada, Alaska and Hawaii. Hicks will support helicopter operators across Western Canada from British Columbia to Saskatchewan, the Yukon, Northwest territories , Alaska and Hawaii, representing HSNA’s Rolls-Royce 250, Turbomeca Arriel 1 and 2, Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6T, GE CT7A and CT58 engine lines as well as providing helicopter dynamic component and airframe and avionic MRO services.
Jim Nordstrom, president of Executive Aircraft Maintenance (EAM), was enjoying the retired life when several friends enticed him back to the business in 2001 as part of a three-way partnership called Copper State Turbine Engine Company (CSTEC). “I told them that I’d help set up the company but really wanted to go back into retirement as soon as it was practical; that was 12 years ago and I’m still here,” he told AIN.
Greenwich AeroGroup announced today that Atlantic Aero in Greensboro, N.C., and Western Aircraft in Boise, Idaho, have received AS9110 quality system certifications. Now all three Greenwich AeroGroup maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) service centers are AS certified. The internationally recognized AS9110 standard focuses on MRO services and is an offshoot of the AS9100 standard that addresses the aviation industry. “We are extremely pleased with these achievements,” said Greenwich AeroGroup senior v-p Jeff Mihalic.
Cincinnati, Ohio-headquartered Unison Industries (Hall 3 B132), which provides electrical and mechanical components and systems for aircraft engines and airframes, announced several developments to provide better cooling for engines.
Among these is an air-cooled fuel cooler (ACFC). According to Unison, composite aircraft, more efficient engines and higher energy loads are making fuel less available for cooling purposes and in some cases return-to-tank is not possible.
Duncan Aviation has appointed Shawn Schmitz to the position of turbine engine tech rep for Honeywell and Rolls-Royce engines. Schmitz joined Duncan Aviation in 2001 after serving six years in the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed in Yuma, Ariz., with two deployments to Japan. He most recently served as the team leader for the Duncan Aviation engine line shop.
Pilatus has selected Tactair Fluid Controls (Hall 3A 117A) to supply brake master cylinders for the Pilatus PC-24 twinjet. Tactair has also been selected by Mecaer Aviation Group for the brake master cylinder control system, which includes master cylinders, parking brake valve and reservoir for integration into the Bell 525 Relentless helicopter retractable landing gear. Tactair has also delivered flight test hardware to support the Embraer Legacy 500 and 450 landing gear.
