Total Aircraft Services is exploring the possibility of STCs to install BAE Systems’ Matador infrared missile countermeasure equipment on corporate jets such as the Global Express and BBJ. The system uses modulating IR lamps to disarm shoulder-launched heat-seeking missiles.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has certified BAE Systems’ Matador infrared countermeasures (IRCM) missile jamming system as an approved product for national defense. The approval comes under the DHS’ Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies (Safety) Act, passed by Congress in 2002.

Currently the system is the only one of its kind to receive DHS approval. The Matador system has been installed in a number of corporate jets since it received FAA certification in 1987.
