Vision Systems (Booth 1551) is showcasing its expanded range of electronically dimmable windows here at NBAA 2014. The French company’s Nuance Multizone range of windows promises improved comfort for passengers because it allows the dimming of light to be adjusted for each window.
Jeppesen has released its FliteDeck Pro electronic flight bag (EFB) software for Microsoft Window 8 tablets, and Delta Air Lines is implementing FliteDeck Pro for 11,000 pilots on Microsoft Surface 2 tablets. FliteDeck Pro for Windows 8 offers worldwide navigation charts, including data-driven en route information and terminal charts, all of which are updated with “changes-only” content to facilitate faster updates. Unlike the current version of the iPad, the Surface tablet allows users to run two applications in split screens.
Vision Systems (Stand 200) is here at MEBA with two new cabin products: a tablet support arm called Smart Up, and VisiConnect, a system providing in-flight Internet connectivity. Both are available for all types of business jets.
Smart Up is a motorized-deployment arm that is integrated in the passenger’s armrest. The 3.3-pound device can accommodate any type of tablet in portrait or landscape position, and its orientation can be changed easily. Lyon, France-based Vision Systems said Embraer has already adopted it for its Phenom 300 light business jet.
Pentar Avionics of Seattle announced availability of the new version of its JetLan airborne network server, the JetLan XP. Besides offering enhanced performance compared to the earlier design, company president Bob Rodgers told AIN the JetLan XP “is a much more modular system that can be upgraded to take advantage of new technology as it becomes available.
Buyers of an executive version of the new Airbus A350XWB will have the option of selecting the electrochromic (or “smart windows”) technology from PPG. The windows, developed by Gentex of Zeeland, Mich., contain an organic di-electric gel. When a very low electrical current is introduced, the gel will darken, rendering the window opaque.
