Royal Jordanian will be the Middle East launch customer for the GEnx engine to power its 787s when deliveries begin in 2010. The flagcarrier selected General Electric (Stand C410) as its powerplant provider last month. Earlier this year, Royal Jordanian was announced as a 787 customer for up to 16 of the new 787 long-haul airliners. It will be taking these through a mixture of purchase and lease packages.

Thomas Foley, CEO of Greenville, S.C.-based Stevens Aviation, has been appointed by President Bush to serve as director of private-sector development in Iraq. Foley, 51, will lead a staff responsible for developing and implementing a privatization plan for some 200 state-owned enterprises and managing trade and foreign investments into Iraq. He and President Bush first met in 1974 when both were attending Harvard University.

After purchasing Landmark Aviation and Standard Aero from The Carlyle Group on August 1, Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) announced that it is selling a division of Landmark Aviation now called the Airport Services Group and retaining the maintenance-focused portions of Landmark, including executive aircraft completions business Associated Air Center as well as turbine overhauler Standard Aero.
Gulfstream kicked off EBACE with an order for three G450s (and options on another 17) from National Air Services (NAS) of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The agreement, potentially worth more than $650 million if all options are exercised, calls for delivery of the first aircraft in the third quarter of 2009. Deliveries will continue for the following five years. NAS ordered three G450s in 2005 for delivery before the end of this year.
Universal Weather & Aviation is to open a business aircraft handling operation at Beirut International Airport in Lebanon. The facility will be run as a joint venture with local company Cirrus Middle East and will eventually trade under the name Universal Aviation Beirut.
