Aéro Montréal, greater Montreal’s aerospace cluster, has signed two “framework agreements” with similar industrial clusters in Germany and Poland aimed at improving cooperation and expanding trade. During the Paris Airshow last year Aéro Montréal signed similar agreements with the aerospace clusters
in Midi-Pyrénées and Aquitaine in France.

France’s Aerospace Valley, with 94,000 jobs at 1,300 companies (including approximately 1,000 small and medium-sized enterprises– SMEs) and 8,500 research positions, has emerged on the industry map as Europe’s only true aerospace cluster. Aerospace Valley, the cooperative venture between Midi-Pyrénées and the neighboring southwest region of Aquitaine representing 61 SMEs, is again exhibiting here at Le Bourget in Hall 4.

French regions Aquitaine and Midi-Pyrénées have formed an organization called the “Aerospace Valley” to bid for government-endorsed “competitiveness area” status in the fields of aerospace and on-board systems. The French government is expected to name 10 to 20 such areas in mid-July, giving participants a certain status that will lead to industry recognition and access to new financial backing.
