Rosoboronexport reported a new Indian order for 12 Mil Mi-17V5 helicopters at the Aero India show this week amid hopes that some 200 of them could eventually be sold to India. To date, Russian Helicopters has delivered 36 of the 80 machines that were ordered in 2008 in a deal worth more than $1.3 billion. Deliveries to the Indian Air Force commenced in 2011. The latest order comprises three in VIP transport configuration, and nine for the Indian Coast Guard.

PANH has its own technical support service for Mi-2s, Mi-8s, Mi-26s and Ka-32s in Russia, as well as maintenance stations in Afghanistan and Kazakhstan. It will share information with HSC about the utilization of its own helicopters and those of its technical support clients. In return, HSC is giving priority to PANH for spare parts, at a fixed price. Separately, HSC has opened a 24-hour call center for operators of Russian helicopters.

The Mil Mi-26T2 upgrade made its debut at the Moscow Air Show (MAKS 2011), demonstrating its higher power-weight ratio and better handing characteristics in the flight display.
In November Russian Helicopters delivered a Mi-26TC heavy twin, manufactured by Rostvertol, to Hong-Kong-based import firm Lectern Aviation Supplies. The aircraft, expected to be used for firefighting, is the third Mi-26TC sold by Rostvertol in China; a contract for another is under negotiation, Russian Helicopters said.

Russian manufacturer Rostvertol is establishing a joint venture with Lectern Aviation Supplies in Hong Kong to promote its Mi-26T heavy-lifter in the People’s Republic of China.
Western OEMs so far have not targeted the Chinese heavy-lift helicopter market sector. Rostvertol says it has already made several presentations in China and representatives have also visited its plant in Rostov-on-Don, Russia.
