Sandel Avionics is demonstrating its HeliTaws WireWatch helicopter wire-strike avoidance full-color display at Booth No. 6008. The Vista, Calif. avionics manufacturer has expanded the portfolio of national and regional powerline databases to all of North America and New Zealand, and it is assembling transmission line obstruction databases for South Korea and Japan.
Sandel Avionics has been selected by Sikorsky to provide a new MIL-STD version of its HeliTAWS wire and terrain alerting system for forward-fit installation aboard the new S-70i Black Hawk helicopter in mid-2012.
The model ST3453H, like Sandel’s commercial model ST3400H HeliTAWS, protects against terrain, wires and obstacles, and is the only terrain avoidance system certified for nuisance-free operation below en route altitudes, according to the company.
GE Aviation’s Systems division expects to complete testing the interface units for the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey some time in the next few weeks, after which the units will be flight tested on the vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft.
