Elbit last month launched Skylens, a wearable head-up display for an enhanced flight vision system. The ski goggle-shaped device offers a greater field of view than night-vision goggles (NVG), according to the company. Developed specifically for helicopters, the system also fuses infrared (EVS) and synthetic (SVS) images with flight parameter symbology for improved safety in poor visibility. The symbology will present flight and critical engine parameters.
Brazil’s Embraer announced several “product enhancements” to its midsize Legacy 500 and “mid-light” Legacy 450 business jets at last week’s NBAA 2013 Convention in Las Vegas.
With the first prototype of the Legacy 450 due to fly by year-end, the manufacturer revealed that it has extended the fuselage of the jet by more than half a foot to provide six additional inches of cabin length. Embraer has also increased the range specification of the Legacy 450 from 2,300 to 2,500 nm with four passengers by increasing the aircraft’s full-fuel capacity.
The customer comes first, according to Embraer Executive Jets, which is announcing several product enhancements to its midsize Legacy 500 and “mid-light” Legacy 450 business jets at this year’s NBAA convention. The Brazilian manufacturer said that preferences voiced by potential customers have led it to finesse the cabin interior designs of the sibling jets as they advance toward certification.
Jetcraft Corporation today announced the launch of the Hud Vision Access head-up display system for the Challenger 604. The equipment, based on Kollsman’s enhanced flight vision system, is covered by a new STC, which gives Challenger operators reduced-visibility landing credits for using the display. Jetcraft and its subsidiary Jetcraft Avionics have selected West Star Aviation to handle system installations.
A new set of FAA regulations signals the agency’s intent to make installation of an enhanced flight vision system (EFVS) far more worthwhile and less burdensome, with new capabilities such as flight to touchdown in below-minimums visibilities, dispatch to below-minimums airports for commercial operators and a framework for certification that eliminates the need for special conditions.
The Rockwell Collins HGS Flight app for the iPad may seem like a game, but spend enough time with it and you’ll soon come to appreciate the benefits of a head-up display (HUD) and learn about HUD symbology and operation.
FlyRealHUDs.com has developed an inexpensive HUD simulator plug-in that runs on the X-Plane flight simulator program. The FlyRealHUDs (FRH) plugin replicates the symbology and flight dynamics of real HUDs and comes in business jet and airliner configurations.
Jetcraft Avionics is unveiling an enhanced flight vision system (EFVS) that will be available for aftermarket retrofit in business jets.
The last Bombardier Global Express XRS was delivered in the first quarter, and so was the first of the Canadian manufacturer’s latest-generation long-range large-cabin jets, the Global 6000. The 6000 replaces the XRS, and the 5000 is a shorter version of the original Global Express with many improvements that were also incorporated on the Global 6000.
If you want a “heads up” on what’s hot at the EBACE show, head to Gore Design Completions (Stand 661) and experience their brand-new virtual reality offering.
