Swiss FBO Air Service Basel reported it handled a record number of aircraft during last week’s Art Basel exhibition, which attracted 92,000 people over six days. The provider, located at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse, saw approximately 300 private and business aircraft movements and welcomed nearly 700 passengers to the fair, which attracts art collectors from around the world.

Beechcraft and its aftermarket service and support organization, Hawker Beechcraft Global Customer Support, appointed Air Service Basel in Switzerland as an authorized service center for the company’s King Air series. The designation allows the facility to provide King Air line and base maintenance. The company, which began operations in 1967, is an FBO, as well as an EASA- and FAA-approved maintenance organization and repair station at Euroairport Basel-Mulhouse in Switzerland.

Basel, Switzerland-based Amac Aerospace has received maintenance organization approval (MOA) from the State Civil Aviation Administration of Russia. The approval allows Amac to carry out base and line maintenance work on all Russian-registered Gulfstream IVs and GVs, as well as Airbus A319s and Boeing 737NGs. It also allows heavy maintenance work up to C Check levels at its facility at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg.

Amac Aerospace has delivered its first cabin completion project, a high-end executive outfitting for a Middle East head of state. The A320 is configured with a stateroom and private lavatory/shower and additional staff seating. Entertainment and communications amenities include on-demand audio/video, satcom and wireless local area network.

EuroAirport, which serves the cities of Basel, Switzerland; Mulhouse, France; and Freiburg, Germany; is home to a considerable maintenance and completion industry, with companies such as Jet Aviation, Lufthansa Technik and Amac specializing in large aircraft. Last month Air Service Basel officially opened a new facility at the airport to serve owners of small and midsize executive jets.

On the shoulders of what it describes as a healthy order book with multiple new completion contracts and signed letters of intent, AMAC Aerospace of Basel, Switzerland, has embarked on the second phase of a major expansion project.
Phase-two construction began in July on a 90,000-sq-ft widebody bizliner hangar that will include backshops and offices. The total investment for the second phase is approximately $21.6 million.

According to CEO Heinz Köhli, the start-up maintenance, completion and refurbishment center officially opened its doors on November 11 but had already begun work on its first project, an Airbus A320 executive interior for a Middle East client.

AMAC Aerospace is preparing to open as a new completions, refurbishment and maintenance provider for business aircraft in August. The Swiss start-up company is being founded by former Jet Aviation CEO Heinz Köhli and will be based at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, near Jet Aviation’s completions center. In late October, AMAC signed a 35-year lease on a 452,000-sq-ft site at the airport.
