Aviat Husky with CNG system

Aviat Aircraft of Afton, Wyo., and Minneapolis-based Aviation Foundation of America introduced a dual fuel, piston-powered aircraft that operates on either compressed natural gas (CNG) or aviation gasoline (avgas) this week at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. The proof-of-concept aircraft fuel system is installed on a standard Aviat Husky A1-C fitted with a CNG belly tank.

In certain oil-rich regions of Russia and its federated republics, natural gas is so abundant that it is treated as a waste product of the crude-oil extraction process. Anxious to cash in on whatever technological opportunities that beckoned, engineers from the Mil design bureau developed a variant of the Mi-8 helicopter that used natural gas as a fuel.
