If the FAA reauthorization bill currently under debate in Congress is finally passed in its present form, one provision that it contains could seal the fate of Stage II aircraft operations in the continental U.S., based in part on the efforts of an aviation industry group known as Sound Initiative.
There are “tens of thousands of aging military aircraft” flying with the world’s air forces and many of those aircraft are more than 25 years old, according to Rob McDonald, ASIS marketing director. “Many of these fleets are set to be still flying in 20 years or more, with some aircraft, such as the USAF KC-135 tankers, topping 80 years old before the last aircraft is withdrawn from service,” he said.

At a recent meeting the GCWG disagreed on NPS alternatives, including a seasonal shift in air-tour corridors by alternatively closing the Zuni and Dragon corridors, which are now open concurrently.
