Business Jet Center at Oakland International Airport (OAK) has completed the construction of a new fuel farm, incorporating 40,000 gallons of jet-A–more than three times the fixed-base operator’s previous capacity for jet fuel–and 12,000 gallons of 100LL. The new above-ground storage tanks were added to handle increased traffic to the FBO.

The turn of the new year has seen several new facilities opening in time for the winter season.

• In Oakland, Calif., the Business Jet Center had its grand opening on December 1. The FBO terminal is the old airline passenger terminal on the historic airport, and the art deco motif used in the renovation reflects its history.

Even though a general aviation airplane has never been used for a known act of terrorism, securing general aviation airports against any such act continues to be a high priority throughout the nation.

While federal government agencies have decided that terrorists using a general aviation aircraft as a weapon of mass destruction is highly unlikely, the perception of a threat is forcing airports to take protective measures.

The FAA has awarded members of the avionics team at Pentastar Aviation its Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Award. The company is located at Oakland County International Airport in Waterford, Mich. The AMT Award recognizes excellence in continuing technical training. The department also received the FAA’s Diamond Award, the program’s highest-level award. It is the department’s third Diamond Award.

The old Alaska Airlines maintenance hangar at Oakland International Airport in the San Francisco Bay Area is now a clean corporate hangar operated by OAK FBO Business Jet Center. The 42,000-sq-ft hangar features 50-foot doors, high enough to fit a Boeing Business Jet and Gulfstream 550.
