BBA subsidiary Ontic (Booth No. 7333) has signed its fourth license agreement for military and commercial electronics with Curtiss-Wright, as part of its Extended Life Solutions program. The products–logic modules, smoke detector sensors, power supplies and power converters–are designed for use on the Sikorsky Black Hawk, all variants; the Sukhoi Superjet 100; and Boeing 747, 757 and 767. The products will be transitioned from Curtiss-Wright’s City of Industry, Calif. facility into Ontic’s Chatsworth, Calif. manufacturing center.
GA Telesis has acquired an inventory of new, overhauled, serviceable rotable and expendable material for the Bombardier Q400. The material is available for immediate purchase. All of the components are warehoused at the company’s distribution center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. GA Telesis can also support spare engine needs of Q400 operators.
Gareth Hall, who was promoted to president and managing director of BBA Aviation’s Ontic subsidiary in January, is focused on accelerating the company’s rate of growth to take advantage of the improving aerospace economy. “The market’s coming back strongly,” he said, “and we see ourselves with lots of opportunities.”
Ontic continues to expand its product line, which now includes the manufacture and MRO support of generation two and three electronics and avionics. A company spokesman told AIN it has traditionally provided fuel computers, fuel measurement systems, weather and terrain avoidance radar, wireless smoke detection systems and electronic engine controls.
There are bargains to be had at Heli-Expo ‘13, especially for operators of pre-owned or early model helicopters. “L.J. Air China and GA Telesis have agreed to establish an Asia-based integrated spare parts supplier in China. After almost a year of planning, the companies have respective top management approvals to move forward with the formation of GA Telesis China (GATC), a joint venture based in China. The enterprise claims it will be the first aircraft part-out business and integrated full-scale redistribution stock list based in China covering the entire Asian market.
BBA Aviation’s Ontic division is rapidly developing a new source of growth, the support of legacy electronics products. Ontic is an aerospace manufacturer that focuses on making parts and components that other original equipment manufacturer (OEMs) don’t want to make or can’t make efficiently anymore. The U.S. company also operates repair stations to support the products that it makes.
Ontic has expanded the electronics manufacturing area at its Chatsworth, Calif. facility. The expansion adds more than 5,000 sq ft of floor space dedicated to mature avionics and electronics manufacturing and support. “This expansion allows us to further support mature avionics and electronics on established platforms.
Ontic, a provider of OEM legacy products and systems, will now offer MRO support for the King Air through its Houston facility. The move is part of parent company BBA Aviation’s intent to further expand Ontic’s presence in the business aircraft market.
