In 1978, Cessna Aircraft opened a Citation service center in Palm Beach, Fla., and five years later relocated it to a facility on the south side of Orlando International Airport to meet demand for its services. Demand continued to grow, to the point that it exceeded the capacity of the 45,000-sq-ft facility and the MRO relocated for a second time.
Cabin window shade specialist Aerospace Technology Group (ATG) raised more than $1,000 for the Corporate Angel Network last week at the NBAA Convention in Orlando, Fla. To raise the money for the charity, which arranges for unused seats on business aircraft flights to be used to transport cancer patients to treatment, show attendees made donations to have their photo taken with members of the NBA champion Miami Heat’s dance team at ATG’s booth.
It takes more than a monster storm and a potentially stifling presidential TFR to knock out the 65th Annual NBAA Convention and Trade Show. With Hurricane Sandy bearing down on the northeastern U.S. on the Saturday before the annual gathering, airlines began a chain of flight cancellations that eventually topped 8,000 before the storm made landfall in southern New Jersey on Monday evening.
About 25,000 attendees and 1,000 exhibitors are expected at the 65th annual NBAA Convention, which runs from Tuesday to Thursday next week at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. As one of the largest trade shows in the U.S., the business aviation convention is projected to have an economic impact of more than $51 million to the Orlando area, according to the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The second outdoor static display that was “just a few steps away from the convention center” at last year’s NBAA Convention in Las Vegas was so enthusiastically received by both exhibitors and attendees that the association decided to do it at this year’s show. According to NBAA static display director Joe Hart, the additional static area at this year’s show encompasses up to 50,000 sq ft in a parking lot adjacent to the North Hall at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center.

The Florida Department of Transportation is rebuilding and expanding Orlando Executive’s north ramp, which is used by Showalter Flying Service, to an open area of about 25 acres. The $1.1 million project will finally repair damage sustained eight years ago during Hurricane Charley.
The NBAA Convention, to be held in late October in Orlando, Fla., will offer what the association bills as an “unprecedented chance” for attendees to have face-to-face discussions with people influential in aviation policies throughout Asia. As part of the show, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and U.S. Department of Transportation will sponsor a “reverse trade mission,” bringing regulators and policymakers from several Asian countries to Orlando for NBAA 2012 and then Washington, D.C., a few days after the convention.
Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons will headline at this year’s NBAA/Corporate Angel Network fundraising event, “An Evening With Angels,” which will be held on October 31 during the NBAA Convention in Orlando, Fla. The fundraiser, to be staged at the Peabody Hotel, will include a networking cocktail hour, dinner, a silent auction and a live auction, concluding with the live concert.
