London Oxford Airport has continued to grow its business aviation activities over the past 12 months, while its tenants, such as Hangar8, also continue to expand their operations. To celebrate six years of running the OxfordJet FBO, the airport is making an offer for the duration of EBACE to halve landing and parking fees for the rest of the year for operators of business aircraft of more than 4 metric tons mtow, subject to availability.

Oxford Aviation, a resident of Oxford County Regional Airport in Maine for nearly 25 years, is engaged in a battle with the Oxford County Commission to avoid eviction, and to compound the proceedings the refurbishment and MRO facility filed for Chapter 13 voluntary bankruptcy on Tuesday.

The filing also noted the transfer of Oxford Aviation’s assets to its founder, owner and president, James Horowitz, for $1. The filing also effectively caused cancellation of a hearing scheduled for Wednesday regarding the separate eviction filing by the Oxford County Commission.

Large infrastructure investments by Oxford Airport’s private owners have paid off with the London-area airport now claiming a spot as the UK’s fifth busiest business aviation airport. As of last month, year-to-date traffic growth at Oxford was 12.2 percent, which, according to business development director James Dillon-Godfray, was markedly ahead of the flat or declining situation at other UK airports (see box).

Oxford Airport, some 40 miles northwest of London, has broken ground on a 47,700-sq-ft, three-bay hangar, making it the largest facility built at the airport to date. It will increase the total hangar space available at the airport to 240,500 sq ft. Offering independent landside access, office space and car parking, the new facility is scheduled for completion by December.

Signature Flight Support’s parent BBA Aviation has sold Oxford Airport in the UK to private investment group OA Acquisitions for £40 million ($80 million). The new owner is part of the Aldersgate Investments group controlled by multi-millionaire British real estate developers David and Simon Reuben.

August Palmer, a selectman in Oxford, Conn., opposes adding approach lights to the master plan at the town’s Waterbury-Oxford Airport. He maintains the landing aids would add noise and light pollution to the area. Airport officials and local pilots disagree, saying the lights would add safety.
